Meyer Sound LEO System Chosen for Inaugural Times of India Film Awards

With an expected audience of 40,000, the first Times of India Film Awards(TOIFA) has chosen a Meyer Sound LEO linear large-scale sound reinforcement system for its awards presentation ceremony on April 6, at the BC Place stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia.

According to Derek Mahaffey, general manager of the event's audio supplierKiAN Concert Sound Services, TOIFA chose LEO for its power, coverage, and exceptional clarity.

"The production manager for the event heard LEO at an electronic dance music festival," Mahaffey says, "He was very impressed by the system's performance."

At TOIFA, LEO will play the critical role of voice reinforcement as well as supporting the soundtracks and live music presentations. The system will use 30 LEO-M line array loudspeakers and 12 1100-LFC low-frequency control elements to cover the arena's 180-degree seating. A Galileo loudspeaker management system with four Galileo Callisto 616 array processors and a Galileo 616 processor will provide system optimization. For side hangs, the system will employ 32 MILO line array loudspeakers and 18 700-HP subwoofers.

"This is an exceptional challenge, both in terms of the size of the venue, and the complexity of the event," Mahaffey says. "LEO is certainly the right choice given the clarity needed for this show."

The largest English-language newspaper in India, The Times of India selected Vancouver as the site for the inaugural awards spectacular to emphasize Indian cinema's international appeal. TOIFA's red-carpet gala will feature appearances by dozens of Bollywood's top stars, and will be broadcast to a worldwide audience estimated in the hundreds of millions.
