Value-Added Distributor to Offer AFL Fusion Splicing Kits, Connectors, and Test Equipment; Serve Integrators Across the U.S.

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. -- April 19, 2011 -- BTX Technologies, a global value-added distributor and manufacturer of interface and integration products, today announced that it has entered into a distribution agreement with AFL, an industry leader in the delivery of fiber optic products, engineering expertise, and integrated services, to cater to the broadcast and pro A/V industries across the United States. Under the agreement, BTX will promote and sell a wide variety of AFL's fusion splicing kits and related equipment, including connectors and test equipment.

AFL offers splicing kits designed to meet the challenges posed by today's fiber networks. BTX is offering its customers the FSM-11S fusion splicing kit featuring SpliceMate(TM), the world's smallest and most portable splicer; the FSM-18S fusion splicing kit, a low-cost, fixed V-groove, single-fiber fusion splicer; and the FSM-60S fusion splicing kit, which splices a fiber in nine seconds and heats a 60-mm splice sleeve in 30 seconds.

"In fiber networks around the world, AFL's splicing systems are utilized more than any other, having earned a well-deserved reputation for increasing performance, productivity, and reliability," said Greg Schwartz, president of BTX Technologies. "The addition of AFL to our product lineup allows BTX to offer our customers incredible pricing on these high-quality fiber installation and test products."

AFL's splicers are bolstered by an array of connectors and test equipment that support high quality installations and reduce time spent in the field. BTX will be offering AFL's FAST(TM) connectors and FuseConnect(TM) splice-on connectors. Pre-polished to eliminate the need for hand polishing in the field, AFL's FAST field-installable connectors feature a proven mechanical splice technology that ensures precision fiber alignment.

A FAST connector tool kit provides all the installation tools required for fiber preparation in one carrying case, including the new CT-30A single-/multimode cleaver. Also offered separately by BTX, the CT-30A cleaver is designed for use with all AFL fusion splicers, and features a large base for a stable platform, excellent visibility when placing the fiber, and three scrap collection options.

AFL's FuseConnect splice-on connectors feature a unique design comprised of just four components. With their factory pre-polished ferrules, the connectors' innovative field-termination process eliminates polishing, adhesives, and crimping in the field, minimizing the potential for operator error and expensive connector scrap.

AFL test equipment to be offered by BTX includes: - C860 QUAD OTDR and Certification Test Set -- A single- and multimode fiber optic certification OTDR (Tier 2) and loss (Tier 1) test set that reduces certification and OTDR costs by up to 50 percent; - C880 Certification Optical Loss Test Set -- Features the new AFL Touch and Test(TM) intuitive visual user interface; - M200 OTDR -- A rugged, handheld, and lightweight OTDR for testing single- or multimode fiber networks; - SMLP 5-5 Loss Test Kit -- Stores files and organizes data for uploading to a PC; - OFS 300 Optical Microscope -- A versatile optical fiber scope with precision 200x magnification; - HiLite Visual Fault Locator -- Quickly locates defects in single- or multimode fiber optic cable; - One-Click Cleaner -- Easy-to-use option for cleaning fiber connectors.

"BTX has an extensive dealer network and offers dealer training that is second to none. Both of these factors will be key in providing us with access to a much wider range of professional integrators, while enabling us to significantly expand the market presence of our passive fiber optic products in the U.S.," said Steve Polidan, national sales manager for AFL. "We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership with the company."
