Offering the Highest Efficiency and Redundancy in its Class, the APC Symmetra PX Utilizes 25kW Power Modules to Provide High Density Scalability up to 500kW GARTNER Data Center Conference (Booth #1)
Las Vegas – December 2, 2008 – APC, a global leader in integrated critical power and cooling services, today unveiled the new APC Symmetra® PX 250/500kW Three-Phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system for the data center market from the Gartner Data Center Conference. Offering ultra-high efficiency, nearly silent operation and N+1 redundancy, the APC Symmetra PX 250/500kW is the world’s first truly modular UPS system that easily scales in 25kW increments up to 500kW. This new modular power solution is ideal for growth oriented high density and higher power installations key to maximizing virtualization efforts in the data center.
“Reducing energy consumption and conserving space are key drivers for virtualization, and employing modular power is critical to maximizing those efficiency gains,” said Dave Guidette, senior vice president, Enterprise Systems and Service, APC. “The addition of the Symmetra PX 250/500kW furthers APC’s lead in scalable power protection by providing high levels of availability and manageability with the lowest total cost of ownership.”
The APC Symmetra PX 250/500kW offers 25kW ultra-high efficiency double conversion online inverter power modules, extended life hot-swap batteries, a large touch-screen graphical user interface, and a side-mounted maintenance bypass panel with subfeed distribution. The new Symmetra PX offers maximum data center configuration flexibility, allowing the unit to easily fit in the same row as IT equipment, or against a wall to save floor space. In the future the Symmetra PX 250/500kW will be capable of being paralleled up to 2 MW. It is the ideal platform for business critical applications running in today’s medium to large data centers.
APC’s Symmetra PX 250/500kW UPS offers a truly modular, scalable system consisting of dedicated and redundant modules – power, intelligence, battery and communications – all engineered into a design that makes installation, future expansion and serviceability easy and efficient. That same architecture eliminates waste and lowers overall total cost of ownership by giving IT managers the ability to right-size power and runtime as demand grows or as higher levels of availability dictate. APC’s highly manageable Symmetra PX 250/500kW also features automated predictive diagnostic capabilities, increased overload capacity, and on-the-fly firmware upgrades, which result in a highly redundant, efficient and simplified UPS architecture. These features and others help increase overall data center reliability by mitigating the risk of human error, a leading cause of data center downtime.
The APC Symmetra PX 250/500kW UPS is currently available in North America in configurations scaling from 25kW to 500kW. This new solution is highly manageable through APC’s comprehensive management solutions, including InfraStruXure® Central. A browser accessible, user-friendly tool, InfraStruXure Central provides monitoring of power, cooling, and environmental management at the rack or room level.
