Meyer Sound will showcase a new generation of point source loudspeakers at AES New York 2019, underscoring continuing innovations in a line extending back four decades to when John Meyer and legendary Broadway sound designer Abe Jacob created the groundbreaking UPA loudspeaker. Other highlights of the Meyer Sound AES New York presence include broad participation in the educational and technical sessions, relaxing hospitality in the “Sonic Lounge” and an off-site demo of Constellation active acoustics in the Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The Meyer Sound demo room this year, 1E03, is significantly larger than last year’s room to accommodate more products and a spacious Sonic Lounge.

“AES New York is very important to Meyer Sound because it’s a global show with a very strong local attendance,” says Director of Business Development John Monitto. “Nearly all Broadway sound designers and New York-based acoustical consultants come to the show, and this year’s full display of our newest point source loudspeakers along with M-Noise, a new measurement and prediction tool is certain to be a strong draw for them.”

Of keen interest to all audio professionals will be the ULTRA-X40, the heir apparent to the venerable UPA loudspeaker. Based on technologies developed for the LEO Family line arrays, ULTRA-X40 is the most significant point source loudspeaker for Meyer Sound since the self-powered series debuted in 1995. ULTRA-X40 is also currently making its Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical and installed in the historic The Town Hall theater, now the new home of Live from Here with Chris Thile.

Heard for the first time together at any trade show will be all three variants of the new UPQ-D series of point source loudspeakers. Featuring the same drivers and footprint as the award-winning original UPQ loudspeakers, the upgraded versions incorporate new class D power amplifiers for lighter weight and less current draw. Two variants have the same coverage pattern as their predecessors: 80° horizontal x 50° vertical for the UPQ-D1, 50° x 50° for the UPQ-D2. The new UPQ-D3 introduces an ultra-wide 80° x 80° pattern. The new UPQ-D3 is heard in the Moulin Rouge! The Musical system, while prior versions of the UPQ series are featured on Broadway in Hadestown and Dear Evan Hansen.

In between loudspeaker demo sessions, visitors can enjoy refreshments and convivial conversations in the Sonic Lounge.

Meyer Sound personnel will be participating in a number of program sessions as presenters, hosts or panelists. On October 18, Director of System Optimization Bob McCarthy will lead “A Cookbook Approach to Sound System Optimization” (1:15 pm) and also take part in “Your Noise Isn’t My Noise: Improving Sound Exposure and Noise Pollution Management at Outdoor Events” (4:15 pm) as well as “How to Organize Unbiased PA/SR Shootouts” (10:30 am).

Senior Technical Support and Education Specialist Merlijn van Veen will join McCarthy for the sound system optimization session and also present “Coherence as an Indicator of Distortion for Wide-Band Audio Signals such as M-Noise and Music” (October 19 at 2:30 pm). He will also present “M-Noise 101” (October 17 at 11:00 am).

Global Brand Strategist Tim Boot will be participating in the session entitled “Solution-based Approaches for Networked Audio in Live Production” (October 16 at 9:00 am), and will also be on the panel, “Milan Protocol: Deterministic AV Networks” (October 16 at 2:00 pm).
